If you want to find out more about non-geographic numbers simply look through
the compiled
questions and answers listed below:
What are non-geographic numbers?
Non-geographic numbers belong to a group of numbers, designated by OFTEL; the range includes:-0800 Free Phone, 0845 Local rate, 0871 Special Rate, 090x Premium Rate and 0870 National Rate.
Unlike normal landline numbers, non-geographic numbers are not tied to one specific area of the UK. Calls are simply pointed to an existing landline number. When using an 0870 number, customers pay a fixed, national rate, wherever they call from.
Will my normal landline number(s) still work?
Yes, 0870 numbers simply point to a current telephone or fax landline number. So whether a customer calls you on your 0870 number or on your regular landline number, you will still receive the call.
How long does it take to set up a non-geographic number?
During the working week (Mon – Fri), orders received before 4pm normally go through within 1-2 working hours. Upon receipt of your order one of our advisors will contact you to confirm your instructions and answer any queries you may have.
We will contact you again when your service is live - Please wait for this confirmation before promoting your new number(s).
What are the costs involved?
There is a one-off fee of £10 per number, after this, there are no charges whatsoever. All numbers advertised are charged at the same rate.
If I used two different non-geographic numbers would I be required to have two different landline telephone numbers?
No, we can set up numerous 0870 numbers to point to just one landline telephone number at a time. This would enable a company, for example, to use different numbers for different promotions.
Are non-geographic numbers for everyone?
No, non-geographic numbers are only suitable for business use and not for domestic use. Whether you are a large company or a sole trader working from home, every business can benefit from using a non-geographic number.
Can I point my non-geographic number to my mobile?
No. Unfortunately we can only route calls through to normal UK landline telephone or fax numbers.
If this is something that you are looking to do we normally recommend that you contact your line provider e.g. BT, and arrange to have a Call Divert service added to your package. This would give you the ability to divert calls to 'any' number you wish, and would also mean that you would have greater control over the delivery of your telephone calls.
Can I change the number that my non-geographic number points to?
Yes, this is very simple. Telephone or email us, quoting your name, your business name, the non-geographic number(s) in question and the new number that you would like the number to point to and we will do the rest.
Can my non-geographic number/s be dialled from abroad?
This would be entirely dependant upon the telephone network you are registered with. If you do expect a significant number of calls from overseas, we recommend you notify foreign customers to dial “+44 870 XXX XXXX”.
